So for my first official post I want to talk about the music I listen to when I run. Kind of like making a mix-tape (remember those?) choosing a playlist to listen to while I run is a very tricky thing. You have to start with something strong and keep building from there, right? You don't want to have your heart racing while you're off hitting the asphalt on a hot summer day to a slow ballad, right? Or maybe you do. I know I've tried it. Didn't work out to good though. Everyone knows music greatly impacts us and directly creates a reactionary response in us, whether it be rock n' roll or underground hip-hop, we all think of certain things when we hear the music we like. I say it's tricky because when I run, I like to run long long distances, meaning that there are peaks and valleys to my speed. I slow down after the first few miles, pacing; then I pick it up a little, then a little more, then a little less. Get what I'm saying? So since this is the case, I have to have something going on musically to reflect that, at least, that's what I like to have going on. It makes everything more manageable and more fun, and that's what it's all about.

Usually, I like to listen to something pretty up beat and with a lot of energy. Anything from Spanish punk to more electronic stuff like Starfucker, to the frenetic Sambomaster; these are just some of the bands that get me going. I've exhausted some of my playlists so much that I actually become reliant on them to tell me how much I've run. I know when Starfucker's "German Love" comes on that I've run close to about 3 miles on any given run. And when I'm at my weakest part of my run, "Heart in a Cage" by The Strokes will pick me up enough to get to the end. Every now and then I mix it up and try running to something else depending on my mood, maybe some White Lies? She Wants Revenge? Hell I've even listen to the Beatles while running. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, I love the Beatles, they just don't push my adrenaline like other bands do.
There've been times that I've clumsily forgotten my iPod at home and am forced to run with nothing. Those days aren't as much fun. I often find myself too busy to listen to the music that I like, so when I lace up my shoes and put on my head phones, that's my time to catch up and remember what it is about the these bands that I love. They literally keep me going.
I'm not sure how many of you out there run or workout or do any kind of activity like this, but if you do, what do you listen to while you do it?
